D-Day 2010: Juno Beach Landings

Why hasn't there been more posted on this blog since March? Well there are a number of reasons. First of all is that real life made a grand entrance with conflicting commitments. Second was the lack of a decent camera to take any pictures. And finally was the plan to build 16' of custom tables for the Canadian landings at Juno Beach to fight a massive battle with more than 12,000 points in armies. I've posted some pictures.

One Royal Marine Commando company and three Canadian infantry companies landed on the beach against three German Festungkompanies. The battlefield covered the landings from Berniers-sur-Mer in the east to west of the Seulle River inland to Graye-sur-Mer. Rory, Geoff, David and Stuart played the Canadians. Duane, Jean-Paul, Matt and Howard played the Germans.

The battle ended with a minor Axis victory as the Canadians experienced a great deal of trouble getting off the beach in a couple of sectors. In the end there just wasn't enough time to get more troops inland to secure the rear objectives.

I will post more details and photos later.

A New Wargames Club is Born

On February 22, 2010, David, Matt, Howard and Stuart - the Founding Officers - met at The Sentry Box for the first club game night of the Calgary R.E.G.I.M.E.N.T. The Club Charter was made official with signatures (and no fan fare), club dues were collected, and then it was time for battle.

Rory and Chris joined in the fun that evening with a new Flames of War scenario. Unfortunately we can't really say much other than the defenders (David, Rory and Stuart) won in all three games - Howard's Fallschirmjager vs. David's Canadian Rifles, Chris' 7AD Armoured Squadron vs. Rory's German Pioneers, and Matt's Panzer Lehr vs. Stuart's 3AD Armoured Rifles. It was a pseudo-playtest, so the details of the scenario are under wraps for now.

In the future there will be more photos since we also have photoshare space to update with game and miniatures pictures. I've posted a couple photos of my own miniatures, and other club members will no doubt share some of their marvelous paint jobs with everyone soon.
